Towneley Gardens Update
Published: 17 October 2017
Refurbishment of Towneley Gardens
Towneley Gardens has been an underused and undervalued space in
central Longridge for a long time. A Community Group was set up last year with
the support of Longridge Town Council to give a facelift to the area and
provide a pleasant community space for short walks and relaxation. The
refreshed gardens will breathe new life into this historic feature on Berry
Lane.
The arch at the entrance to the gardens is the first visible
result of the project and will be followed in coming weeks and months with
further improvements as the entrance is widened and picnic tables and some
interesting signage are added. A raised bed will be located close to the
entrance with sensory plants and herbs to aid the whole gardens becoming a
“dementia friendly” place for people to relax.
The Community Group are extremely grateful to Tesco, the Central
Lancashire Operations Group, the Duchy of Lancaster and Longridge Town Council
for providing funding for the work on Phase 1 of the project. As this initial
phase of work draws to a close over the coming months the Group are starting to
examine options for further work and funding for Phase 2 and will greatly
appreciate the views of the community. They are always looking for people to
join the group and - of course(!) - financial sponsorship.
The Community Group will be holding an open meeting before
Christmas where they will welcome feedback on what’s been achieved in Phase 1
and suggestions for priorities for work in Phase 2. Please keep your eyes
pealed for an announcement.
